Bester Students had the opportunity to spend an evening with their families learning all about Science! S.T.E.M. stands for: Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics. The evening started with a nice dinner and was loaded with lots of different Halloween costumes to celebrate Science night. Classrooms were filled with different science experiments and families were able to participate in three different types of experiments. It was a fun night celebrated with students and families who were excited to learn together. Look forward to another S.T.E.M. Night in the spring!

The 4th Grade took an early morning field trip to the William Brish Planetarium at WCPS. The field trip accompanied our Sun, Moon, and Stars science unit. The students spent the morning with Mr. Chris Kopko and played along with his interactive game show while they learned about the motions of the Earth: rotation and revolution. Students were able to use clickers to participate in the game show and select their own answers.

_Bester 4th Grade students had their first opportunity, of the school year, to celebrate their positive behavior. The weather was warm and both teachers and students were ready to have some fun! The playground was set up with several fun areas including: music and dancing, bubbles, chalk, hula-hooping, kick-ball, and tug-o-war. Just before going inside we played a few rounds of tug-o-war with the entire 4th grade class!

Today I was happy to share my lunch time with a few special students. Each of these students completed all of their assignments throughout the week to earn this reward.

The 4th Graders have been learning the phases of the moon in science. Here they are showing what they know by sequencing the phases of the moon during a reading activity.

Mr. Sandell and Mrs. Gillespie (Two other 4th grade teachers at Bester.) worked hard to write a grant for our grade to have iPod touches in the classroom. Thanks to their dedication, the 4th grade students now have access to 40 iPod Touches.

Students were introduced to the iPods this week. We are so excited to have them as a resource in the classrooms. These will be used for multiple instructional lessons throughout the school year.

Parents, thank you for signing the user agreement form and partnering with us to let the kids share this incredible opportunity!

Many thanks to Mr. Sandell and Mrs. Gillespie!
